CoR Kiting 101 (Warlocks) Empty
PostSubject: CoR Kiting 101 (Warlocks)   CoR Kiting 101 (Warlocks) Icon_minitimeWed Apr 23, 2008 7:55 am

Ok gents. When I am in an instance and a fellow warlock fears a mob, and then fails to even bother CoR kiting, I die a little inside. I fear (no pun intended) that our proud Class will descend into the ranks of the huntards in terms of group hate.

So, here I am to tell you, fellow locks, how to make the difference between looking and feeling like a pro, and getting the 1 finger salute from your party, quickly followed by a kick from the leader.

STEP 1: Fear

This is the step that many newbie locks find disturbingly easy to follow. first things first, you need to prioritise. who is attacking what? what is the biggest threat? Tank being hit? DON'T FEAR. Priest copping a sword to the face? Now is your time to shine.

STEP 2: CoR

Curse of Recklessness, or CoR from hereon, is the backbone of this strategy. It increases the damage output of the mob, but decreases it's armor. But we don't care about that. It's important (!) feature is it's ability to make the target mob IMMUNE TO FEAR.

Can you join the dots (lol) ? Fear, then you CoR when it's run a bit.

STEP 3: Co(anything else)

Now whilst CoR makes the mob immune to fear, it doesn't dispell the fear effect. So, should the mob once again be near you, you can simply cast another curse and they suddenly remember that they're really fucking scared of you again, without recasting fear.

Rinse and repeat. TADA! fear kiting with CoR!

ADVANCED

CoR Kiting can in a way, be used to control mob movement. Fear, when cast, sends the mob (or human player, haha) in a random direction. should this direction be unfavorable (say, to a group of mobs that would turn a bad situation hopeless if pulled) you can cast CoR, and then another curse straight away. This will send the mob running in a different direction, possibly in the opposite direction of more mobs.

This can be advantageous in two ways: 1, it puts more space between you and the mob than regular CoR kiting and 2, it allows you to focus on what you do best: dotting up the other mobs.

Well, that really is all there is to it! for greatest mana efficiency, only get rank 1 CoR, and possibly rank 1 CoW (Curse of Weakness) as it has the lowest mana cost of any curse.

Happy kiting!

If you made a macro for this then it would be easy mode. Something like:

/cast fear
/cast CoR
/cast CoW

(note I am not a pro macro writer. Im sure it could and should be much more elegant than this.)

Not SO MUCH elegant. That macro will only but a "Spell is currently being casted" or red message.

It would be

/castsequence Fear, !CoR, !CoW

(shift click the skills in there)

This still wouldnt work because you'd then recast fear every time, and he would only be feared for the length of the global timer.

Surely you can handle 3 buttons Razz

I have a cast sequence macro, and trust me (3 dot's on my lock) it only spawns the other one (then I think it's a ! before Fear)

As long as you don't switch mobs then the game will remember your cast sequence.

Using macros is nice because you can keep your interface clean of spells you only use occasionaly or allways in a certain order. When I played a shaman I used a lot of cast sequence macros because there are so many totems that I only would use in a certain order or at certain times (say pvp). I think the same reasoning applies to CoR kiting.

I write macros occasionaly. I always have to look up how to write it every time. Thanks to the blizzard forums I don't have to remember what to do. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=3881820910&sid=1
